Great review, Mr. Theron Martin! This show definitely has a lot of heart with characters that are charming and engaging that it was one of my favorite anime of Winter 2017. I would definitely recommend it to most people and your review here pretty much says what I would also say about the series. Not much else to say other than I really hope that this can a second season eventually.

If this show actually went out of its way to build up the characters in some context other than how they think the male teacher is so amazing then I'd have found it a lot more interesting. Other than the short little walk through the succubus' early morning commute though pretty much all conversation revolves around how amazing the male teacher is. It's a cute romp though. Easy to see how others can really enjoy it.

For me, Interviews with Monster Girls will always be the show that thought the Holocaust was an appropriate subject for an episode of a monster-girl show. Otherwise it was okay, as these things go - although it did kind of end up implying that people who are different should stick to their own (& their teacher whose interest in them is purely scientific *wink*) rather than trying to hard to mix with "normies."

He does come across as somewhat of an oddball, although it's possible he's employed at the agency because he's basically a child -- I.E. the possibility that him not having reached puberty yet makes him impervious to succubi powers. Although that leaves the question how he'd know if someone is one if he isn't seeing someone work their abilities, so to speak. Or even if he is one, would he still be impervious to succubus powers? Like say.... a male vampire or a dullahan can still be influenced by a succubus, right? (Never mind that the manga basically has everyone being influenced by a succubus regardless of gender. Or at least the power where she sleeps and gives everyone erotic dreams.) I mean... otherwise, she could live in a female only dorm instead of in the middle of nowhere. So many questions.... |

All the monster girls in Interviews with Monster Girls are far too human for the show's good. I can't help but think of comparing the dullahan from this series to Lala from Monster Musume; Everything is sweet and sanitized here from how she eats to how she talks while Musume is all about the practicalities of the situation.
And it only gets worse for the rest of the monster cast; Couldn't the succubus just be an sexually hypersensitive woman? Couldn't the snow girl just be someone who doesn't interact well with environmental temperatures? Couldn't the vampire... Shouldn't the vampire actually act like a vampire? The others are "one note" monsters but Hikari may as well be a genki girl with a low red cell count with how she's not portrayed as the creature of the night. Yeah pretty much, if it refocused around the "interview" part and had the teacher be less of an actor and more of a narrative device I think it could have been great. But the whole "oh hey you should totally go on a date with the teacher for like... science and stuff" was just... eh. |

I love this show. I ended up pushing it pretty hard as something to watch with a friend in no small part because I wanted an excuse to rewatch it. The interactions between Sakie and Mr. Takahashi had his wife cracking up. Also, I'd probably have to count Hikari as my favorite of Bryn Apprill's performances so far.

I enjoyed this show a lot and I personally enjoyed it a lot more than I did A Centaur's Life. But it's too bad it seems like not that many people watched it. I remember the headless girl was my favorite. Does this boxset also include the OVA episode? I still wish we could get a second season of Monster Girls as I would enjoy seeing more of this world and the characters' interactions.

Seems like a pretty big omission, but that's good news. That was one of the things keeping me from buying it. Is it dubbed? or is it like Dragon Maid's OVA? |

I remember how excited I was when the OVA came out just to have some more Monster Girls and it was a pretty cute episode too. I'm glad to know it's included in the set and that it's been dubbed. Thanks for the info.
