One Piece Tops List of Manga Fans Dropped Due to Length
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Many manga readers begin series with excited optimism about reading the whole story. However, when series start to feel like they continue forever and reading becomes a chore, fans often put down their books. With that in mind, the Goo Ranking website conducted a poll asking its readers which manga they dropped due the series being too long.
The website conducted the poll from December 20 to January 2 and published the results on Wednesday. A total of 3,526 people responded to the poll. The poll included both ongoing and complete manga.
With 84 compiled book volumes published so far, Eiichiro Oda's mega hit One Piece topped the list. The manga is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Due to sheer popularity, it is unavoidable that such a series will lose many readers over the years. Oda said last July that he has finished about 65% of the manga. The series inspired a television series in 1999, and the 781st episode premiered on March 26. The series has also inspired numerous television specials and theatrical films.

An excessive number of hiatuses can contributes to the length of time manga continue and also result in reader loss. Goo Ranking conducted a poll in December that asked fans which manga artists have too many breaks. Yoshihiro Togashi (Hunter X Hunter), Suzue Miuchi (Glass Mask), and Katsura Hoshino (D.Gray-man) topped the list.
