posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Manga creator Saori Otoha launched DAYS Gaiden (DAYS Side Stories), the first spinoff manga of Tsuyoshi Yasuda's DAYS manga, in Kodansha's Magazine Pocket manga app on Wednesday. The manga is an omnibus of stories, switching its focus between different characters to tell the pasts and private lives of characters in the main manga.
The first chapter focuses on Atsushi Kimishita, Seiseki High School's top player.
The main manga centers on two boys who were never meant to meet: Tsukushi Tsukamoto, who has no special skills but secretly hides a passionate heart, and Jin Kazama, an isolated soccer genius. On a stormy night, the two meet, and that meeting creates a whirlwind in the world of high school soccer.
Yasuda launched DAYS in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine in April 2013, and Kodansha published the 18th compiled volume on August 17. The company will publish the 19th compiled volume on October 17. The manga was nominated in the Best Shōnen Manga category for Kodansha's 39th Annual Manga Awards in March 2015, and it ranked at #12 on the Honya Club website's "Nationwide Bookstore Employees' Recommended Comics of 2014" list.
It is inspiring an ongoing television anime series. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime as it airs in Japan.
