posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
The official website of Bandai Namco Group's Dream Festival! franchise announced on Monday that the franchise's smartphone game app will end service on May 1, with sales of in-game items ending on March 30. The Data Carddass Dream Festival! R arcade game will also end service.
The smartphone game of the all-male "2.5D idol project" debuted in 2016.
The premise of the project follows five aspiring male idols at a fictional talent agency. In the world of Dream Festival, fans support their idols with Dream Festival! Cards (a.k.a. "Dorika"). These cards unlock costume changes and special stage performances during the idols' performances.
The franchise inspired a television anime in October 2016, and a second season followed last October. Crunchyroll streamed both seasons as they aired in Japan.
The project's member companies include Bandai Namco Pictures, Bandai, Bandai Namco Rights Marketing (Bandai Channel), Lantis, Amuse, Bandai Namco Entertainment, Banpresto, and Beams. Many of these same companies are also involved in the Aikatsu! and Love Live! idol projects.
